New Comment Policy

We’re proud to have joined the blog community and to have moved to nearly exclusively blog format, but as such we’ve found there is a need to clarify what is and what is not acceptable in comments on columns.

Post comments are good ways to explore issues and to vette out both sides. However, 80% of the comments received from those on the right have been personal attacks. Watchdog Milwaukee will not approve comments which are exclusively hate inspired rants and personal attacks. Such was the case with a recent posting by CRG member Chris Kliesmet.

Instead of focusing on the issue, Kliesmet went on a personal attack. While we expect this behavior of both children and CRG members, we will not publish unedited rants of this nature. We highlight Kliesmet’s post not to simply call him out (although we’re amused by that also) but to display what reactions posts like his will be treated. Specifically, we will edit out personal attacks and leave any part that still has a touch of substance (as we did with Kliesmet’s post). You will find parts of Kliesmet’s comment to be replaced with the following:

(Watchdog Milwaukee has removed Kliesmet’s personal attack. If he wants to diseminate his hatemongering he can peddle it elsewhere.)

It is for the reader to decide whether a response makes a valid point. It is our responsibility to keep the discourse civil and focused on the issues that affect so many of us.
