A Blog to Watch: Mark Pocan
I’m impressed.
On first blush you would think that a politician would have a pretty self-serving, self-adoring blog to heap praises upon himself. Not so with State Representative Mark Pocan’s new blog. It’s actually really informative.
In the legislature, Pocan generally has a no-holds barred attitude and he continues with it in his blog.
But the one thing Pocan is realizing is that you can’t please everyone. Although he laments criticism from some weenie who didn’t like him comparing sausages to laws (it was actually Kaiser Otto Bismark who first did that), he adds a little personality to the mix with his ‘hey, I like sausage too’ response.
Expect Pocan to tackle some big issues. Voting machine problems, ethics reform and calling out the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WTA) as a Republican shill group were all part of his first week online. For the record, WTA is still one of the better sources for straight shooting statistics (ignore their commentary) of where local government tax rates are. Any organization that starts out on their webpage claiming to be “the state’s oldest and most respected”… research organization is clearly looking for laurels they probably don’t deserve. If you really want to visit a well respected Wisconsin research organization, visit the Public Policy Forum.
Here’s a highlight of what he’s got with what would have been a more eye-catching title:
Senator Mike Ellis waters down Ethics reform for special interests (It’s got to be pain pills)
Wisconsin ‘Corporate’ Taxpayer Alliance (‘Corporate” Taxpayer Alliance)
Issue Focus: Ethics and Campaign Finance Reform
Broken Voting Machines: Accenture lauds self on “Stellar” performance in Wisconsin (Accenturating the Positive… )
