A HUGE Thumbs up for the New Bayshore Mall
If you've ever wandered down a European street, whether it's in Cork in the south of Ireland or Munich Germany, you've gotten a sense for what you should expect when visiting Glendale's newest upgrade to Bayshore Mall.
In short, it's a hit.
For the most part it is pedestrian friendly. If there is one criticism the designers have coming it is that the sidewalks are a little too narrow. Couples should be able to walk past each other hand in hand but the Bayshore sidewalks accomodate the width of about 3 people.
Shops are well situated and there is no shortage of upscale eateries and watering holes.
Bayshore even brags home to a new Trader Joe's — the mostly natural food store that has great prices as well as some interesting and unique things you won't find anywhere else. (Think chocoate covered soy nuts — and yes, they're good.) Trader Joe's will be a hit among people who like a good wine for a reasonable price as their flagship brand, Charles Schwalb, pulls in wine lovers and its cheap price keeps them. Nicknamed "two buck Chuck", this wine sells for an unbelievably low price of just $2.99.
Try it. You'll like it.

I’m not a fan of the new mall (I don’t care much for new urbanism, and would prefer some local restaurants to all of those huge chains)…but I do like Trader Joe’s.
One correction: Charles Shaw is their house wine. (Stay away from their Cab, unless it’s gotten better in the last few years. The Sauvignon Blanc is drinkable.) My favorite TJ’s wine is Il Valore (sp?) primativo — an Italian grape identical to Zinfandel. $4 a bottle. Good stuff.
Count me as another who doesn’t like the new mall. While it won’t be a flop, the “Town Center” concept was a giant waste of space. While it is different and interesting, the point of a shopping district is to shop, and at this point, Bayshore’s tenants are really lacking (besides the chain restaurants.) While they will fill in, there’s little doubt the indoor tenants will crush the outdoor ones in sales.
