Dems Could Win Assembly but not Senate
I had an opportunity to talk to a legislator today and it sounds like it just might be possible for the dems to take over the Assembly. The Assembly Democrats sound organized and have sound leadership behind them.
The Senate however is another story. Dominated by a pissing match between Senators Decker and Robson, dem leadership is full of nothing but advice and good intentions. I had high hopes for Erpenbach but the word about town is that he’s not a workhorse. Taylor seemed to have potential but her follow through is said to be lacking and she’s more interested in the glory but not the work. If anything, Miller may be their only true leader and a true inspiration for candidates who want to work hard.
In short, there’s a bunch of blowhards whose own personal ambitions mean they will be haranging Senate candidates thinking that means they’re tight with them and will owe them even though they haven’t worked on their campaigns or raised any money for them. Sounds like they’re willing to settle for MINORITY leader doesn’t it?
For all the bellyaching and running away from former Senator Chuck Chvala, one thing could be said for Chuck — he was organized and knew how to put together an impressive volunteer force. He was the go-to guy. His exodus from the State Senate left dems in that house without a leader.

Jim, I respect your insights and those of the legislator you talked to.
Regardless of the situation in the senate caucus itself, though, you know full well how much will there is in the community to unseat folks like Tom Reynolds. And simply looking at the numbers statewide and the districts that are up (Reynolds, Brown, Zien, etc.) — whether we ascribe it to “conventional wisdom” or not — the senate is definitely in play.
