Mr. Bush, Tear Down that Wall

alfredbush.jpgIt's shameful and speaks to how embarassing American politics has become.

Yesterday, President Bush signed a bill to fund the construction of a fence along the US-Mexican border.  (Gee, a wall to separate two politically distinct areas — there's an idea that's never been done before.)  Apparently he thinks this is going to stop illegal immigration.   Duh!

Let's think this one through.  Man has family.  Family lives in squallor, suffers from tainted drinking water, inadequate health care for ailing children, ramshackle shelter and malnutrition.  Man sees opportunity to improve the lives of wife and children.  His only barrier?  Climbing a fence or knocking a hole through it.

Do you really think any decent man who is faced with seeing his children suffer from crippling poverty will see the fence as any more than just another barrier to be overcome?

This is an incredible, stupendous, collosal, spectacular, massive waste of tax dollars. berlin-wall.jpg

Like Bush planned to fund the Iraq war with the oil he confiscated, he has another novel idea on how to fund the fence…Tourism!

Instead of slamming Bush and his idea…why not come up with a BETTER and MORE EFFECTIVE way to handle illegal immigration? Oh, I guess that would be too hard for the author of this opinion. His solution is to continue to allow a completely wide open border with no end in sight. If you oppose the fence so much for keeping illegals out, then shouldn’t you by the same token oppose any border agents who arret illegals and send them back to Mexico? If you oppose the fence, then you should be opposing our border security agents.
