Michael Vick. What a Dick.
The guy makes millions of dollars running around on a football field and apparently he feels a need to supplement his income by running an illegal dog fighting ring.
Now I know that we expect football players to be aggressive. But being aggressive doesn’t mean you need to be inhumane. There is no excuse for Vick’s poor choice and he ought to be permanently tossed off of the professional football field.
What, annuities and the stock market didn’t offer Vick enough risk? Did he need to get an adrenaline high from making dogs tear each other apart?
Now I’ll admit, I’ve got a soft spot for dogs. I was the VP of Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue a couple years ago and also served as their Secretary. I’ve also seen the images of dogs that are victims of this barbarous “sport” and I have enough common sense to know that it is wrong. Also, our mascot for this blog is Deuce, a rescued pitbull.
We are supposed to be able to look up to sports stars. They’re supposed to be role models. It was tough enough for me to swallow seeing a Green Bay Packer pull up into a disabled parking space in his hot little sports car this summer, but now when a pro football player is running an illegal dog fighting ring, it sickens me. This is a lousy message to be sending to our children.
Kudos to the two parents in my community to removed and tore up the posters of Michael Vick which had previously adorned their sons bedroom walls. Vick is a thug and deserves no honors, whether they be a simple poster on a 10 year old boys wall, or accolades from football fans.
