Best of Blogs

I have my favorite blogs as most do. Some of them are investigative. Some focus on research. Some are just solid commentary.

A blog earns my respect by being consistent in their message. I don’t need to see postings every day. I’m looking more for quality than quantity. I look for content, not just grammar and bloggers willing to put a name to those who seek to destroy democracy. I also regularly look at blogs that don’t cede credibility to the right and don’t talk about how some of the crazies are nice guys or good guys or delude themselves into thinking that the right suffers from any ethical uncertainty. Embracing that sort of short sighted approach does nothing but give the swiftboaters on the right credibility and smacks of the losing strategy of appeasement. I also look for blogs that understand that benign allusions to the term “conservative” by the right always mean Republican so they don’t make the mistake of calling them conservative.

While there are several good blogs out there, today I’m choosing to highlight three blogs today for some solid work.

Plaisted Writes, a blog written by attorney Mike Plaisted, highlights how Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC), a Republican front group, is using the words of Marquette Law School Professor (Associate Professor is the title he lays claim to if I’m not mistaken) Rick Esenberg to attack Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler. Esenberg, who is working to swiftboat Justice Butler, is a GOP attack dog who portrays a Rove-like calm while eviscerating his undeserving victims. Plaisted explains how WMC is building a phony case against Butler.

Brew City Brawler is one of the scrappers in the blogosphere. His post, the Nazi roots of Privatization, is on point. While the Brawler, his psyeudonym, speaks of himself in third person (evoking memories of Bob Dole), I can overlook that since the content is often solid.

Mobile’s Take, a blog by Ken Mobile, focuses his energies on local issues. He understands the concept that former House Speaker Tip O’Neil both espoused and wrote about in his book All Politics Is Local (which, incidentally is a short but great read). Mobile makes no bones about being an advocate and can be counted on to talk about all things Wisconsin from the virtual schools debate to the newest antics by Sheriff David Clarke. He’s also willing to name names as was the case in his post on County Supervisor Lynne DeBruin.
