On the December 13 edition of The O’Reilly Factor, loudmouth host Bill O’Reilly compared the Richmond Times-Dispach to media in Madison where “you expect those people to be communing with Satan.” While the compliment is sweet, it seems awfully misguided to denounce the media in a city that had been home to Republican Governor turned cabinet secretary Tommy Thompson for over a decade and is currently supporting a state government that is majority Republican. Sure the city is full of hippies but unless by “Satan,” O’Reilly means “lentil soup,” he, as usual, is way off the mark. Madison does have a famous liberal in constant print, John Nichols, Washington Correspondant for The Nation and editorial page editor for The Capitol Times. This does not make the whole media scene in the city Liberal cum Satanists and I doubt O’Reilly has ever read The Isthmus or the Wisconsin State Journal. I myself have not in years, but I doubt these papers could be considered as liberal as Satanists. Unless he means The Onion which covers news only slightly better that The O’Reilly Factor itself.

It’s difficult to know who should be more ouraged, Madisonians or Satanists. Either way, Bill O’Reilly is once again as alarmingly short of facts as he is long on hot air, which we could compare favorably to the Hindenburg but we won’t because we Wisconsinites have more class. If you’ve ever been to Madison, you notice that it’s a pretty ordinary town. And while I suppose there could be ritual sacrifices being carried out in moonlit cemeteries, that seems to be a better description of O’Reilly’s back yard than our state’s capitol. It was suggested in the hallowed halls of this fine institution that O’Reilly is attempting to smear beloved senator Russell Feingold. I personally doubt it. For a man like O’Reilly who likes to talk often and loudly and wears his self-aggrandizing ignorance on his beleagured sleeve to beat around the bush (hahaha) in such a fashion would be wholly out of character.
I can’t wait until O’Reilly actually does get around to calling Senator Feingold names.
