Despite the facts John McCain is doggedly determined to continue the economic policies that have led to the current economic crisis. Today the republican candidate parroted Mr Bush by saying that the fundamentals of the economy are still going strong. What country is this guy talking about? I was waiting for him to add with a snicker, “Just kidding.” But it never followed. After the events of the last 24 hours? Talk about out of touch. Economically McCain is nothing different than Bush. The FACTS are that the unemployment rate when the republicans took office was 4.2% and now it’s 6.1%. There was a $281 Billion annual budget surplus then and republicans have turned it into a $357 billion annual deficit. The national debt was $5.7 trillion and under republican control it has increased to $9.7 trillion. Gasoline was $1.49 a gallon then and now it’s $4.09. FACTS! All McCain can offer is to make permanent the mistakes of his republican predecessor. I would like to see McCain explain how his economic policy would differ from the policy that brought on the current financial crisis. Specifically.

As far as his noble character goes… Today Republican Strategist, Karl Rove said that McCain has, “Gone too far.” in reference to the lies his campaign has been repeating. This coming from the man touted as “The Architect” by Bush himself. McCain has become exactly what he used to claim to despise.

This Palin person is a lunatic! She’s a (expletive deleted) like none other. Would I say that if she was a man? No. I’d call him an (expletive deleted). If she’d rather I call her an I’m cool with that too. But honestly shrill is more fitting.

She lies. She refuses to back down from her claim that she had anything to do with stopping the infamous, “bridge to nowhere.” In truth she supported it completely until it wasn’t politically correct to. It wasn’t until congress already pulled the project that she decided she was against it. But as Governor of Alaska she still graciously accepted the same federal money and used it for other projects. She claims that she told congress, “No thanks. If we want that bridge we’ll build it ourselves.” But still accepted the money? That’s not change anyone can believe in. It’s putting lipstick on a pig.

She makes poor decisions with negative results. She insists that the only thing children should learn about preventing pregnancy and disease is abstinence. Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant out of wedlock. Has Palin changed her mind on abstinence only education? No. I’m not picking on her 17 year old daughter. I understand that things like this happen. I’m picking on Palin herself for her position on sex education and as a mother for her NEGLECT and IRRESPONSIBILITY in not teaching her daughter how to protect herself. Perhaps if she had taught her daughter about birth control or disease prevention like a responsible parent her daughter wouldn’t have gotten pregnant.

As I type I’m hearing the latest news story on the campaign. Apparently Obama was giving a speech and said that McCain’s ideas for something amounted to nothing more than a cosmetic change and wouldn’t change anything at all. Obama said that it was like, “putting lipstick on a pig.” Derived from the saying, “If you put lipstick on a pig it’s still a pig.” McCain decided against defending his position on policy and said that Obama should apologize to Palin for the, “Lipstick on a pig” comment. What kind of crap is that? It’s an insult to the American people for McCain to assume they are dumb enough to buy that crap. So far the only people that I’ve noticed buy into it are the people who only vote for hard core right wingers anyway.

So far I’ve seen no evidence what-so-ever that any new people are turning to the republican candidate because of the new bitch on the ticket. I have however noticed that the hard core right wing of the republican party is beginning to come back out. They weren’t very happy with McCain so now they feel he’s made up for it by picking someone who shares their own beliefs. Fundamentalist Christians love to hate Liberals. The cheerleaders just came onto the field after the game began is all.

I believe that the decision to nominate Palin as his vice presidential running mate alone is proof that McCain is incapable of making decisions in a responsible manner. Selecting a hard core right wing nutjob isn’t the act of a maverick. It is the act of a formerly noble servant of his country in a desperate attempt at winning a campaign. The only change McCain represents is his own shift from putting his country first to putting his campaign first.

While using the public airwaves on KICD Radio, King Steve of Iowa gave his take on the potential presidency of Democratic Senator Barack Obama. The King said, “I don’t want to disparage anyone because of their race, their ethnicity, their name, whatever the religion of their father might have been,” just before doing just that as he continued. “I’ll just say this, that when you think about the optics (optics?) of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected president of the United States, I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does this Look like to the world of Islam?” The King said that if Obama is elected president, “Al Qaida and the radical Islamists and their supporters will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11th.”

Are you kidding me? Not only did this guy say it out loud, but he said it out loud on the public airwaves.

Does this monarch know something we don’t about Barack Obama? Is Obama planning to stop screening travelers, leaving our airplanes open to being used as missiles against us as they were under Bush? Has he announced Osama Bin Laden on his shortlist for Vice President? The answer to all of those questions is a resounding “No.” The open street discos will be the result of everyone knowing that Barack Obama has the middle name of Hussein as if to imply that electing Barack Obama would suddenly reincarnate Saddam Hussein in Obama’s body. Actually he’s not really saying that it would reincarnate Saddam. He’s saying that all of those terrible people that wish to harm the United States are dumb enough to believe that Saddam will be reincarnated in Barack Obama. I can’t figure out any reason what-so-ever why electing someone with a different name would make the haters of freedom celebrate so openly. Does King Steve think that people outside of his kingdom are that stupid?

So what is it that we should fear about them dancing in the streets anyway? Let’s assume they would start this outdoor dance fesitval. Would that be so bad? What does King Steve of Iowa care if people living on the other side of the Earth want to get down and boogie for a while?

What’s that you’re saying? He’s not THE King of Iowa? It’s just his name? So it’s actually Republican U.S. Representative Steve King of Iowa? But I thought…..

Well Mr. King, I imagine it would look no more odd to have a President Barack Hussein Obama than it would to have a “King” in Iowa.

You bonehead.
I don’t want anyone to think I question anyone else’s patriotism. With the exception being those in government and elsewhere who are truly not looking out for the best interests of our nation but are only looking out for their own financial interests.

I believe the majority of the people in this country only want to do what is right. They want our troops home and they want them home as soon as possible without making us or them any less safe. It is a shared love for our country that causes such passion coming from both sides on this war issue. The debate is over how to accomplish it and the definition of accomplishment for each side.

I get passionate because every time someone dies a mother is given notification. A father loses the joy of seeing how his years of playing catch or fishing with idle conversation made his son or daughter into a great parent or even greater person. A child grows up only knowing that his father or mother loved their country and that’s why they never get to know anything else about them. Never get to feel the comfort only a parent can bring. As a parent I think of what it must be like to receive a letter, or phone call, or telegram telling me my son or daughter died while _____ (you fill in the blank). I think my heart would stop that second. Of course I’m lucky enough that it hasn’t happened. But just thinking about it brings strong emotions from near everyone.

Each of the individual lives lost has a story and a real family connected to it. They are not just one more of a few thousand.

It’s all about empathy.

They did. The government keeps telling them they are doing a good job and when they are done they’ll be coming home. They did an excellent job in taking down the Iraqi military and the Baath Party as was their mission. Time to come home. I mean seriously this is how I’m hearing this. And it’s getting tired and old.

“No wait. You did a good job, but now we want you to find that bad Saddam guy that used to run this place just to make sure he doesn’t try to take over again when we leave.

Alright! You found him. Excellent job. Now it’s time to come home. We’ve got the ticker tape parade waitin’ for ya. I know it’s been rough on you soldiers. (I mean your government did in fact send you to an optional war without first giving you all the best we had to offer. We would have had it but Rumsfeld was busy downsizing the military when we were being told by the intelligence that an attack was coming soon. I digress.) I hope you don’t mind this. I know you’ve already done what we’ve asked of you a few times, but we would like to just give you another mission real quick before you come home. We’ll keep the parades warmed up for you though. We’re going to need you to just root through the towns and tiny hiding places looking for people who don’t like us while we put this Saddam prick on trial. I know we told you they’d love us and welcome us, but apparently they don’t like foreigners running their country. We’ve got him though. He can’t hurt anyone any more. Thanks soldiers for hangin’ in there.

Oh troops. I’m really really sorry. When I mentioned, “Running the country.” it reminded me. I know I’ve asked a lot of you and your families and your loved ones, but now that we got this bad guy on trial they’re going to need someone to be in charge. So while we have him on trial could you please supervise some elections for the country? We’ll call the shots and fund the winner because we like him right now, (we did that for Saddam too but shhhh) but these people like to kill each other and we’d like it if you could kind of stand in between them and try to keep them under control until we can get this election and trial over with. We’re hurrying. I know we told you it’d be six months in the beginning and that it’d pay for itself, but please just bear with us. The plan has to evolve with the changing battlefield. You know that. You troops are awesome.

We did it! The guy we wanted to be the new leader in Iraq is now in charge. And a whole bunch of those “smaller” local leaders too. Thanks again troops. I know it got pretty messy when they were campaigning with rifles. We’re keeping you all in our prayers and you’re just doing great. We’re almost done now and then you get to go home and see your children, wives, mothers, fathers, and everyone else you miss. Most of you will anyway. (But let’s not talk about that. It makes people sad) Anyway…. It’s looking good so far. You’ve gotten them through their elections. Now we just need to finish up this trial and then we’re outta here soldiers.

Before you leave you’ll have all of the equipment we could have gotten for you before you came here. See? We care about you. We just have a lot to do right now and you did volunteer. You’re not going to try and say your recruiter lied are you? Why is it that every time a soldier comes into the service he says he was lied to by his recruiter? You’d think we only hire liars to recruit troops.

Awesome job guys! Saddam was found guilty. You’ve done everything we asked of you and then some. Start packing. We’re not sure when the next phase of his trial is going to start, but it’s almost over for you now. He’s been sentenced to death but they aren’t sure when they want to do it or if they want to put him on trial for more crimes first. Just know that we’re always thinking about you and you’re doing great.

SURPRISE! They hung Saddam!! Wooo Hooooooo! They hanged him up real good. No warning or anything.

I know you troops aren’t going to like to hear this but I’m going to give it to you straight. Remember when we told you what we came here for? And then we kept changing it and making it after this and after that but you’re still not coming home? Well…… We’re firing the guy who had that plan because it turns out he was just making up things as he went along. Okay we were too. You caught us. But we had to blame it on someone and he helped us with the bad idea in the first place. You know how those Liberals always want to hold someone accountable. (He said he wanted to retire anyway so it didn’t hurt his feelings.) He really liked you guys though.

We’re changing the whole plan. You’ll have to unpack again. I’m really sorry troops. We’re going to send you a few thousand more troops to keep you company though. Don’t get the wrong idea. You’re doing great. We just want to give more of the young folks from our great country a chance to do great with you in someone else’s country. Whatever you do though be careful. These Iraqis have grown kind of tired of us running the place and as I’m sure you know they’re starting to kill you all off faster and faster. We’re replacing your buddies and even sending several thousand more now though so there’s plenty of you all there. We’re going to put the ticker tape and parades on ice for now. Just know they’re here and waiting for every single one of you that makes it back.

Oh you’re not going to like this. The sectarian violence that you’ve been watching get out of control day in and day out. You know what I’m talking about right? I know we called it something else, but it’s a civil war. Oh c’mon now soldiers. The people at home may not have known the facts, but you volunteered and you’ve been here watching this get worse and worse all along. But just remember you are on our minds and we’re trying to think up something quick to get you all out of this mess. We’re not going to tease you with a time that you get to come home anymore though. You can come home when we’re done. That’s the best we have for you. I know it’s not much right now, but just know that we only did this because it was what was best for the country.”

Which Country?

“You citizens listen too. You would have never let this happen if you knew all of the facts ahead of time. Go on. Admit it. You would have told us that it’s a waste of time and valuable resources we need to fight the War on Terror. You bunch of Liberals!”

I think people need to start giving our troops the credit they have coming. They did a great job. It is nothing but an insult to keep telling them they are doing great while they are treated like failures by not being shown their success by bringing them home. It’s like saying, “You did really good now do it better.”

As a father, son, and veteran myself this current government makes me sick. As if a draft dodging coward knows how to run a war. And every one of you so called conservatives know it’s what he did. Hid like a little coward. You’re happy because you can hide it from being proven, but you know it’s what he did. I’m not a court of law and either is my vote. I don’t have to prove he hid like a coward. He proved it good enough for me when his files disappeared. Millions of people serve the country and every last move they made the entire time they were in is documented, but the records of an AWOL coward got lost. Riiiiiight. (snicker) Are you really going to stand by that one? Which one of his military buddies is willing to stand up for him? Here, let me call one of mine and ask. Maybe he’ll remember. Because when you serve your country you have a bond with the people you served with. Where are his buddies?

He is a coward who sends people to kill other people and die themselves in the process. Something his coward ass hid from like a little bitch. He wasn’t even man enough to admit he hid because he disagreed with his government. He just hid to protect his own ass. His only cause was his own as it is now and always has been.
