Recall Repeal: State Rep. Al Ott (R) gets it, why don’t the Dems?
A string of recalls has helped trash our electoral system and ousted many experienced and committed public servants, but the Democrats lack the courage and conviction to do anything.
But a lone Republican, State Rep. Al Ott (R-Forest Junction), has shown the courage to stand up and say “enough”. Recalls have been used for frivilous reasons by a bunch of sour grapes activists who want a “do-over” for races they or their candidates lost, reducing our electoral system to a game and fueling groups like CRG (Citizens for Responsible Government) who thrive on hate.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports:
Ott’s bill, which is still in committee, would require a circuit court ruling that recall petitions involving officials serving on municipal or school boards fall under specified categories: inefficiency, neglect of duty, misconduct or malfeasance. Those provisions used to be required under state statutes, but a change in state law eliminated them in 1990.
Maybe it’s time to do a little research and find out who the dimwitted legislators were who eliminated that electoral safeguard in 1990. They need to be outted. Damaging our democracy is no small matter.
Those legislators were charged with serving the public and clearly they didn’t that vote much thought. There have been several other recall elections for less.
