Attorney General candidates: Kathleen Falk & Peg Lautenschlager
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk Lots of endorsements including many legislators, pro-choice women, labor groups including SEIU.
They know I am the strongest candidate for this office that we cannot afford to lose. JD Vanhollen and Paul Bucher would change Wisconsin into South Dakota… they support laws that would allow more guns on playgrounds (and other places… they defend the failed system that spends two times as much putting people in prison than putting children in school … is that what you want? (crowd NO) … that's right 13 years as assistant Attorney General 12 years as the Public Intervenor (environmental watchdog) "It's not enough to fight the good fight — we've got to win". In her first 100 days she will introduce an environmental strike force….
It's clear that Falk is running not only because she can do a good job (and she's well qualified) but because she feels Lautenschlager is going to get whacked by Republicans for her drunk driving conviction. She makes a compelling argument but had the grace to not attack Lautenschlager. But is Lautenschlager truly vulnerable? Wisconsin is a forgiving state and many elected officials have overcome past problems. Add to that the fact that Lautenschlager has an impressive record. Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager: Wow — the crowd loves her.
Keeps her promises… promised to protect the environment and fight corruption. Asks for delegate support "No doubt that I have made some mistakes along the way. I have learned from those mistakes" Our methamphetamine program is a model for the country… meth use is down 50% in Wisconsin. We made the largest cocaine bust in Milwaukee. Our internet crimes against children unit is the very best … (netting more criminals than any other unit like it in the nation". We have fought horrible legislation that undermines our environmental laws. I have taken on the powerful and joined in historic lawsuits to fight global warming. We have sued over 30 pharmaceutical companies (who gouge for high drug prices). I have earned the endorsement of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. I've testified before congress about the skyrocketing cost of natural gas. I've called on my opponents to call for meaningful limits on campaign spending. I come here today proud that the promises I have made to you have been filled. I come to you today proud to be a democrat and proud to be the peoples lawyer. I'm honored and proud to be your Attorney General. Thank you.
Holy cats. No wonder she's loved. This gal sure knows how to work a crowd.
