Candidate Jim Sullivan raised more money than any other Dem State Senate Candidate
In the reporting period from January through June, Wauwatosa Alderman Jim Sullivan raised an impressive $87,000 for his state senate campaign. Now the only question is what his quirky opponent, State Senator Tom Reynolds raised. Reynolds failed to file electronically.
Here's the problem for Reynolds — if a candidate raises a certain (low threshold) of money for their campagn, they are required to file their campaign finance statements electronically. Reynolds did not file electronically which means he didn't raise very much at all — either that, or he's violated state law by not filing electronically.
Either way, this catapults Sullivan into the top partisan spot in Milwaukee County. There is no question that political strategists with an inkling of savvy will see Sullivan as the top candidate but the question now is how much energy will the GOP put behind defending the eccentric evangelical Reynolds who has done more to bury his own campaign than any other candidate in recent Wisconsin history.

If a candiate already filed electronically in an election cycle then he must for the remainder of the cycle. Reynolds has and thus violated the law. As soon as a candidate raises $20,000 in a cycle he is required to file electronically the rest of the cycle, even if he does not raise one penny in a reporting period. Reynolds has raised over $20,000 and thus violated the law.
