Cha-ching! Lawyers Lining Pockets in Holloway case

This debate on whether the county contracted lawyers should get about a hundred thousand more to prosecute Chairman Lee Holloway has taken a bizarre twist.

Two Republicans on the ethics board resigned because they were upset that the county board didn’t approve yet another expenditure to prosecute Holloway. Cest la vie ! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out !

90 charges ??? C’mon, give it a rest. Yes Holloway did wrong and yes, he should step down for the sake of the board and to maintain public confidence in government, but the ethics board seemed to be on more of a GOP inspired witch hunt than anything else.

Well now that a Judge has said no to most of the charges, the lawyer who has been going after Holloway is now saying he can wrap up the case for the bargain basement price of just $50,000. Now John Q Public can probably better relate to if you tell him that its about the same sum as it would cost to keep his neighborhood park pool (or two) open this summer. Maybe we need a referrendum on whether we should spend the money on A) going after Holloway with more tax dollars or B) using that money to keep a pool open.

Who do you know wants to buy a lawyer?

Do we here $20,000? How about $10,000?

Can we see the actual bills to see how many hours have been wracked up and at what hourly rate?

But of course expecting some attorney to be able to wrap up a case he’s been pursuing, in part in the media instead of the courtroom, for less than six figures might be unreasonable. After all, who will pay for that extra Carribean getaway or that sweet bottle of Dom being squirreled away until the next trip down the Riviera?

Now this is not at all to excuse any of the inappropriate things that Holloway has done, but isn’t is just possible that special prosecutor John Fiorenza, who has donated thousands of dollars to Republican candidates, might be willing to cut the county a deal in part because he knows his work could bring more embarrassment to the board?

Gee, I wonder where I could find a listing of all of his GOP donations?
