Democratic Values and Candidates Won

Wow.

Waukesha — that’s the City of Waukesha, elected a Democrat over a bride of TABOR supporting State Representative. Holy cats. Did I mention it was the Republican stronghold of Waukesha?

I’m stunned. Pleasantly. pleasantly. stunned.

Now don’t get your hopes up. It’s a non-partisan race so Waukesha Republicans didn’t actually have to pull a lever with a D on it (I think they outlawed those out there).

In Brown Deer, 3 of the 4 candidates supported by the teachers union won. That’s Brown Deer. The home of Citizens for Reactionary…er, Responsible Government Brown Deer. The home of yeah, we voted for Bush Brown Deer.

In Whitefish Bay 54% voted for the referendum to bring our troops home. That’s Whitefish Bay as in “yeah, we elected Alberta Darling, so what Whitefish Bay.” They asked:

Should the U.S. now begin withdrawing troops from Iraq and continue steady withdrawals until all our troops are home?

Glendale said no to Republican activist and to their former Mayor Jay Hintze. Holy cats.

In other news, cities that put multiple school spending initiatives on their ballot got wallopped but districts who showed wisdom and restraint (Yorkville) passed their school referendums. Let this be a lesson. If you want to pass a referrendum for kids, don’t bother trying to do everything at once.

Judicial candidate Jane Carroll pulled out an impressive win. She’s good on the issues and will likely make a good judge.

    Jim:

You left out the thumping 70% in Shorewood for Iraq withdrawal.

Sure Jane Carroll is competent and good on the issues, but what worries me was her association with pocket-sized fascist JJ Bloinen.

  2. Suzanne in Milw:

Yes, it was a very good day, made possible by lots of work by lots of good people. And just to stick up for Brown Deer, Kerry did win by over 300 votes, so we’re on the right track.

  3. Jim McGuigan:

    And in 2000?
