Donovan Riley drops out
Donovan Riley has dropped his primary bid for the State Senate seat.
It was the right thing to do.
It seems that Riley made the decision to vote twice in an election. He now appears to understand the ramifications of his actions.
This leaves the liberal east side and Bay View without a liberal democratic alternative to the more conservative Democrat Jeff Plale (D-South Milwaukee). Riley had a very real chance to beat Plale but this double voting scandal doomed his chances. Despite Plale's record of teaming up with Republicans on various issues, he has shown some impressive courage at times by voting to sustain vetoes by Governor Jim Doyle.
So for those who are spending the day depressed, get over it. Plale may not be perfect but there are plenty of times he has been there when he's been needed.
