Endorsements 2006

There are many reasons to support these candidates but one common theme in all of their races is that they support embryonic stem cell research while all of their opponents oppose it.

Jim Doyle for Governor. We endorsed Doyle out of the state Dem convention in LaCrosse last summer. Click here for the story.

Jim Sullivan for State Senate. Read all about here.

Stan Teplin for Assembly. In this Oz-Wash district, Stan's the man.

Law enforcement hinged on responsibility — a key factor for those offices.

Kathleen Falk for Attorney General. Her 14 years as Assistant Attorney General, coupled with her opponent — who supports the use of cop killer bullets and legalizing concealed weapons — made this one a no-brainer. Falk also has the surest understanding of the role the Attorney General plays in state law enforcement.  Read the Watchdog analysis here.

Don Holt for Milwaukee County Sheriff. His extensive service as a State Trooper, coupled with his opponent — who has broken the law with jail overcrowding and routinely pawns off responsibility on others — made Holt an easy choice.  Click here for our interview with Holt.

Referendum endorsments:

NO on the marriage amendment. Government interference in personal lives is wrong and writing discrimination into our constitution defies common sense. This was not put on the ballot because it made sense — it was put on the ballot for political purposes.

NO on the death penalty. With the amount of people who have been proven innocent of the crimes they were convicted for, it defies logic to sentence someone to death — a sentence which cannot be overturned if the person is later exonerated.  But again, this amendment was put on the ballot for political purposes.  As an advisory referendum, the results mean nothing.

Jim - Here are a few of my choices, (not sure you care)

For govenor - I just don’t like my choices, not sure what I will do, probably Green.

A.G. - Kathleen is better than Peg, but I will stick with J.B.

Sheriff - My friend David Clarke

    Marriage Amendment - YES
    Death Penalty - NO

  2. James:

Stocks - Why No on the death penalty? The most evil criminals have it easier than the victims.

  3. Jim McGuigan:

If people say they’re pro-life, the only ones with any credibility are the ones who are also against the death penalty. That’s probably why. Would you agree Bill?

  4. John-david Morgan:

Both Mary Lazich and Alberta Darling said they would not have voted for the death penalty if it had been before them in the state Senate as non-advisory legislation. Lazich (R - New Berlin) is a pro-Life. Darling (R - River Hills) is pro-Choice.

The voters have advised that we jump off the death penalty bridge; the new Dem-controlled state Senate will not allow that. And even if the GOPs still had control, the death penalty politicians would still be a few votes short of bringing the death penalty to Wisconsin.

  5. Bill Stocks:

I can’t speak for other peoples credibility, but I believe that if you truly are against abortion, then you should also be against the death penalty. I realize how unfortunate that it is when some hardened criminals seem to get the easy way out, but it is not our call to make whether some one should live or die.

  6. James:

Oh Stocks, you try to sound so noble. What if the man on a possible death-row sentence murdered your two precious little girls? Would you wish there were no death penalty? I think not.

  7. Bill Stocks:

James - I hope it would never come to that.
