Even kitsch artist Wyland who paints whales and dancing dolphins on sides of buildings to promote his own “art” is calling County Executive Scott Walker out of touch. Walker wants Wyland to pay the county if he wants to paint a whale on the side of the museum.

“They want to charge me to come there and give a free mural to the county? This guy’s really out of touch. This is a first.” according to an interview the publicity seeking Wyland gave to the JS.

So how does the museum board feel about it? Well let’s rewind the clock about 6 years to when the mural was proposed to be on the museum last time. Donors were beside themselves and said they would withhold donations if one of Wyland’s kitschy whales was sprayed on the museum. The museum board was outraged and said “no” to the county.

Now that Walker has said he’s interested in putting Wyland’s mural on the side of the museum if Whalen pays for it, it’s obvious that Walker believes the museum is just another billboard.
