Clarke's Republicanism may be the exception that would raise the question of whether Wisconsin Dems should change their rules and endorse at convention. Beware the exception to a good, pro-democracy rule.

The Minnesota Democratic Farm Labor Party (DFL) endorses candidates at its convention, and it just seems undemocratic. The party delegates endorsed Mike Hatch in the primary to decide who will go against GOP incumbent Gov. Tim Pawlenty, but that hasn't knocked Becky Lourey out of the race, and shouldn't. We don't need to turn conventions into an unofficial sort of representative democracy. It's the sort of thing we accuse Republicans of, inside party politics that kills the diversity in the party (Peggy Rosenzweig, Mary Panzer in 2002).

And what about Peg Lautenschlagger and Kathleen Falk in our attorney general primary? From Jim's live report from the convention, it appears that the party faithful would have endorsed Lautenschlagger at convention. The AFL-CIO endorsement of Lautenschlagger is already controversial enough for its lack of democratic process. The friends who helped elect her may feel sympathetic and loyal, but there's a real politick outside of Madison that Dems need to pay attention to.

Out in the wards, the mood about Lautenschlagger is not so enthusiastic, especially in Milwaukee, where many smart legislators encouraged Falk to take her on. People don't care who Lautenschlagger's friends are, only that her attempt to ditch responsibility in a drunk driving incident is no way for an attorney general to act. It's made-to-order fodder for right wing radio squawkers in this area; she's a big problem for the Democratic slate, affecting the governor's race and races in Racine, Milwaukee and Wauwatosa-West Allis.

Changing policy to oust Clarke is tempting, no question about that. But I think we can do as ex-deputy outsider has in this blog, and get the "Clarke is unfit for the Democratic primary" message out to the grass roots primary voters.

Let the people, not the Party, decide.

Clarke knows if he runs as a Democrat his chances of winning re-election are good. So people of Milwaukee County when you go and vote, DO NOT VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRAT. Please do not vote for Clarke again. Take your time and pick the right one for Sheriff. "NOT CLARKE" -- We as Milwaukee County residents do not need this guy in office. This guy does not know if he is coming or going. He can't make his mind up on matters that concern the people of Milwaukee County, his own Deputies or his own command staff. Clarke has played us the fools for long enough now. Let's, now play him right out of office.

People of Milwaukee County, King David needs to get out of office ASAP. The only way this is going to happen is for us, Milwaukee County residents is to vote for Vince. I know in the past I have vented and ranted and raved about a lot of issues with this guy, but people, the time is near. Can we really afford 4 more years with this do-nothing, gone-from-office, back-stabbing, two-faced, loose cannon, money hungry low-life, dont-care-about you-or-your-family, pimp of Milwaukee, power hungry, no-brainer, loser, cheater, liar, cowboy want-to-be, forced religon, kiss my ass or "ELSE", above the law, it's Clarke's way or no way, person in office any longer.

The choice is yours Milwaukee County. Vote.
