The Sunday Roundup

soglin_now.gifMadison's former Mayor Paul Soglin breaks it down to basics in an insightful column, Mark Green can keep my tax cut.

FrankLasee.jpgMeanwhile, State Assemblyman Frank Lasee is featured on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, anchored of course by Stephen Colbert.  Lasee has come up with his own version of brilliant — arm teachers as a solution to gun violence in schools.  No, it's not a joke — the Senator actually wants teachers to pack heat.

TonyPalmeri.gifBlogger Tony Palmeri has been including some great youTube.com footage to his website including a clip of a movie with an actor who portrays legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow speaking against the climate of fear that now-disgraced Wisconsin Senator Joe McCarthy propogated. We would have permalinked to it but Palmeri hasn't enabled that feature yet.  We found it directly on YouTube.  On that same note, here's a clip of McCarthy reminding Republicans that their job is to "dislodge the traitors from every place where they intend to do their traitorous work".

The website Election 2006 projects the dems will win the House of Representatives and have a hairline lead in the Senate.

tommythompson.jpgIn his quirky lust for attention, former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson can't stand to be out of the spotlight as he let it be known that he's considering running for President once again.  This is yet another distraction from republican candidate for Governor Mark Green who hopes to unseat democrat Jim Doyle.  Doyle leads in the polls yet Thompson oddly chose to take attention away from Green due to what appears to be more of a lust for attention than what he would normally be expected to do which is to shill for Green.

green.jpgCongressman Mark Green is now blaming Jim Doyle for supporting illegal aliens.  Whuuuuuuh?  Yes, this odd accusation comes from a Congressman who actually could have done something about illegal immigration against a Governor whose borders don't touch Mexico (let's not mince words — this argument isn't about Canadians flowing across the northern border).  Green needs to explain why in his years in the United States House of Representatives, that he never addressed the issue of illegal immigration.

freemanthisone.jpgOn the morning talk show roundup, talk show host Jessica McBride (Paul Bucher's newest wife) is back and this time she's blaming (get this) former President Bill Clinton for the North Korean nuclear test this past week.  Yes, it's true.  McBride actually alluded that it was Clinton's fault that the Korean dictator felt emboldened to test a nuclear weapon.  Nearly 6 years after leaving office, republicans like McBride continue to grasp at straws by blaming the predecessor of failing President George W Bush.

North Korea is a problem for any president past or present. Bush is distracted with daddy’s war, but Clinton is playing the finger pointing game too. Where is the Edwards-McCain ticket we wanted? (I think McCain would defect if asked to be somebodies (Dem) VP.)

  2. Jim McGuigan:

I don’t see McCain defecting. He’s a loyal member of the GOP.

It would take a lot for McCain to defect. I suppose it’s like many catholics now, myself included, who aren’t fond of what the vatican has dicated in recent years and tire of the church scandals. We’re weary of the problems but we’re still catholics.

  3. John-david Morgan:

McBride knows about diplomacy or lack thereof in Korea? This, after the Buchers finished dead last for AG, an office hubby Paul coveted so long he should know at least something about?

If McCain’s the GOP nominee he’s the next president. He’s been courting the evangelical right in hopes of getting through the GOP convention. If he’s blocked at convention and offered the Vice Presidential nomination (which he might just view as a slap in the face), things could get interesting.

Independent is a more likely label for the Arizona Senator. His positions on Iraq, education, health care and jobs are nowhere near the Dems or what middle America is looking for.

That site, http://electoral-vote.com had Kerry winning 2004, even showing he could possibly win it without Ohio. Reality was quite a bit different. Every election the pollsters tell us Virginia is a toss-up - just might go blue. Election day, it’s not close as the Republican wins.

At least we know Ney is finished in Ohio.

The site has Dr. Steve Kagen with a slight lead over John Gard in Congressional District 8. Optimistic poll at best.

Wow, Liebernman has a 53-40 point lead running as Independent in Connecticut against Ned Lamont — do we believe that poll?

  5. Bill Stocks:

McCain would never run on as a Democrat. It seems he has solidified his place within the Republican Party in the last 6 months to a year. He will probably be rewarded for it and get the nod.
