John Edwards is IN

JohnEdwards1.jpgThank God John Edwards has decided to run for the Presidency.

Edwards carries with him near-Bill Clinton charisma.  With some pundits calling the primary for Hillary Clinton already, it's nice to see someone enter the race who could actually win the presidency for the democrats.

John Edwards is that man.

In the last race, keep in mind that he polled poorly but when you went back and looked at the actual totals, Edwards did surprisingly well.

Edwards is quite possibly the hippest democrat out there.  He's even got a myspace page.

I’m an Edwards fan myself. During the primary campaign in ‘04, I went to one of his appearances a skeptic and came away a believer. This is a man who, as Molly Ivins puts it, has “some Elvis.” Plus, he’s the only major Democrat who makes poverty a priority: in 2004 he was the only one who even brought it up as an issue.

So many great reasons to back John Edwards for president…I’ll have some of them on the blog I started at http://madison-for-edwards.blogspot.com.

In 2004, I was not that high on Edwards, being a Dean guy myself, until I heard him speak, and more appropriately, how I saw him connect with his audiences. It’s not just that he has charisma, but he has something beyond that that can convey to people the passion and emotion he has, and instill it within said audience-members.

He’s running a progressive campaign, in every sense of the words. He’s staking out ostensibly progressive positions, siding with a school of thought to which I belong, that running on progressive ideology is not contrary to good political sense (though it is contrary to conventional wisdom); he’s running this as a campaign based at the grassroots, sustained by his most ardent and passionate supporters and powered by their numbers and enthusiasm in truly democratic fashion; and finally, but most importantly, he’s running his campaign as an auxillary to building a progressive movement. I cannot tell you in one comment-post of how important this is in the short-term to his success and to building a truly progressive agenda for action in this country. Check out my blog for more in the future on that.

He definitely has the “presence” or charisma. I think he ran against Kerry and gained cross-over votes, until he joined Kerry and seemed to water-down his own beliefs.
