More Media Double Standards - Kagen blunder roasted, Walker blunders ignored
Now let's look at this logically.
One politician nearly brings the county government he runs to its knees and continues to work on destroying its infrastructure while another is alleged to have made some smarmy comments that show a lack of courtesy.
Which do you suppose merits harsher headlines - the first one which has adversely affected nearly a million peoples lives or the second one which can't even be confirmed first hand but might have insulted up to three people?
Yep — the second one. This is our news media. Today's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has a front page story highlighting the alleged comments made by Congressman Steve Kagen. At the same time, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker has been on a borrow and spend orgy which, in 2008, will make it extremely difficult to balance a budget and will require repayment of his borrowing on the people's behalf for nearly a generation. At the same time, he has neglected infrastructure and closed pools.
So where are the ongoing headlines roasting Walker? Where is the criticism? Have you seen editorials with headlines like "Grow up County Executive"? Nope. What's the difference here? Why the double standard? Could it be because Scott Walker is a Republican and Steve Kagen is a Democrat?
Since Scott Walker was elected, so much of Milwaukee County has fallen apart that a reporter could take any of his budgets and do a story on their adverse affects as well as Walker's political strongarm attempts every day for a year. But I guess the word on Walker's blunders is "hush-hush".
