They’re at it again and now they expect elected officials to actually take orders from them.

Despite their dwindling numbers, despite the fact that many in the public know them to be a group of pro-recall nuts, despite the fact that they’re essentially an organization run by two members, the inappropriately named Citizens for Responsible Government is at it again.

The groups leader, Chris Kliesmet, went on record with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel saying “at the end of the day, they have to do what they are told, not what they feel like doing”. He was referring to Milwaukee County Supervisors — the same Supervisors who were elected by 50,000 of their constituents.

Sadly, Kliesmet doesn’t understand basic civics — the high school class that teaches children that when people are elected to office in America that they make their decisions based on their conscience. That system of government, the one that we use in this country, is called a representative democracy. While Kliesmet may want the public to think he’s talking about pure democracy — the system of government where nothing happens until everyone gets in a room and votes on every issue, what Kliesmet is really talking about is a system of government where those who are elected do what Kliesmet wants them to do based on fear of losing their job as an elected official.

Kliesmet’s bully democracy may work for him, but if elected officials are going to do their jobs and analyze and assess the issues honesty, they shouldn’t have to do it with the threat of a partisan with an agenda.

Like the one-time reality TV star who recently speculated about the boy in the balloon as a way to expand his 15 minutes of fame, Kliesmet is showing he’s willing to go to extra-ordinary means in his drive to grab the spotlight once again.
