Sykes and McBride: Now more than just bloviating in common
They’re both hardcore Republican activists masquerading as impartial information providers. Both have had talk radio shows and now both talk show host Charlie Sykes and Milwaukee Magazine columnist Jessica McBride have had extramarital affairs.
While both have made their living wagging fingers at others, neither can be accused of discretion. While Sykes picked an opera singer to hook up with while still being married to now Appeals Judge Diane Sykes, McBride was smitten by power. McBride, who has lectured on journalistic ethics while teaching classes at UW-Milwaukee, chose Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn who she was writing a story on.
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reporter Dan Bice, who broke the story of the affair, cites this little nugget of correspondence between the two — “Warm, no not warm, hot memories of beautiful moments … I feel younger today than I did last night.”
It’s time to light a few candles and cue up the Barry White.
McBride’s editor at Milwaukee Magazine is Bruce Murphy who has taken some journalistic liberties of his own over the past few years. According to Bice’s story, Murphy seems to care little that McBride was carrying on a tryst with the Chief while she was writing the story “the Cop who can’t stop.”
McBride is married to former Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher and while Bucher no longer wields the power of the law, Flynn does. How does that affect McBride?
“I feel younger today than I did last night.”
Apparently, power really is an aphrodisiac.

charlie sykes has never said he is impartial.
Who cares if they are impartial. They fail to live up to the “morals” that they try to impose on us.
Two consenting adults, a scandal, extramarital affairs, happen everyday. What’s scandalous, is assisting in the cover up of a Ugandan rapist (NON consensual sex) & the luvaffair he has w/ his lawyer a Legal Action of Wisconsin staff member, the bribes taking by a -corrupt Milwaukee judge, A rape and domestic violence victim jailed for fighting back, police breaking her baby bones, paralyzing her -pepper-spraying her & her baby does Bice have the balls to cover that story, now that’s scandalous.
I had the chance or really the misfortune of tuning into Sunday Insight with Charlie Sykes on WTMJ channel 4 in Milwaukee the last couple of weeks. It is clear that Mr. Sykes’ TV program is a continuation of his radio broadcast with opinionated and highly bias commentary that is smartly disguised particularly to the TV viewers as indisputable facts. Why doesn’t TMJ4 just simply hang a GOP banner behind Sykes? While I am somewhat kidding with that last point, I really don’t personally have any quandary with Mr. Sykes obvious and personal party affiliation. Hence, the political star, Paul Ryan cheerleading event in the February 7, 2010 TV broadcast on that morning’s program. However, I do have a problem with Mr. Sykes presenting his misinformation of personal commentary and GOP talking points as fact, but more exasperating is TMJ4 endorsing Sykes’ observations by airing this program without qualification. With Sykes constant cutting off his guests that oppose his assertions, as well as the lack of serious guest panelists with opposing views on Sykes’ agenda. In addition, the gross lack of fact checking of Sykes’ ranting is insulting. It just appears extremely disingenuous on the part of TMJ4 allowing a single individual’s obvious and personal agenda, as well as Sykes’ need for personal self-gratification in this highly visible format to go unchecked. Still, what is more offensive and outrageous that this Sunday Insight program is attempting to manipulate an audience with lowbrow commentary and mainstream GOP talking points masquerading as real local news or real informative political talk show. So that is why I am not at all surprised by the misleading antics of Charlie Sykes trying to fool the general public as a sensible individual with high standards.
