I'm sorry to hear this, Jim. I know very well what you're going through. We (my ex-wife and I) had to put down her cat a few years back, and it was quite hard. She was a part of our house. Please accept my condolences about Zoe.

Jim, I am so sorry. I lost my 8.5 year old cat, Apollo, last September after a 23 month battle he had with salivary gland cancer. He also had lost a lot of weight like your Zoe did, and he passed away quickly at home. In his case, we were told he would live 6 months, 12 if he was lucky, and up until the day he passed away he was himself, so we were very lucky. I know what you mean about pets being family members, our two cats are our children. After Apollo passed on, we did adopt a beautiful and wonderful Javanese purebred from a local purebred rescue group in the Milwaukee area and while nobody an replace our Apollo, our big fuzzy Orion is a worthy successor.

I'm very sorry Jim. I just went through this with my cat on election day, April 7. He was only 11 and it was a shock, I didn't even see it coming. He also had cancer (I didn't know until after he was already gone). It has been a tough 12 months as I lost my older dog last May to cancer also, he was 10. I only have my border collie left and the house seems so quiet now.

I also lost a human family member in November. Anyway, I really do understand how you probably feel right about now and my thoughts are with you and your family.
