Bill,

I was referring to the Democratic and Republican Party Structures, not individuals who happen to be affiliated with those parties. Those celebrations were primarily being coordinated by Party organizations. Sorry if I hadn't made myself clear.

Don't you remember the comment from the Republican Delegate from the GOP Convention who was whining about how GOP functions had been cancelled "because of little rain", referring to the entire Southeastern region of the United States being pummelled by hurricanes and tornadoes?

and to E_Man262: you obviously are not considering the massive difference between the Great Depression and the current economic crisis versus the 1970's, which while significant in its scope, did not come close to what we are facing now or in the 20's and 30's. And much of what happened in the 1970's was related to the OPEC oil embargo. Had we followed up on the steps towards building alternate energy, improving fuel mileage in vehicles and building hybrids or electrics that were started back then, we wouldn't be in quite the deep fix we are now.

We wouldn't be having to bail out the U.S. Auto companies either, because they already would have had vehicles to compete with foreign imports, which they cannot do now, thanks to Republicans blocking that legislation mandating higher fuel efficiency for over thirty years.

And those jobs would still be there.

"I would encourage all of you to consider doing a food drive of non-perishable items to coincide with your celebrations, so that we can show everyone that we work differently than Republicans do, and that we truly have the people as our priority."

There are many Republicans already working on food drives, and providing for those who have not.

"Millions are out of work, millions have lost their homes. We are currently in an economic crisis which is the worst since the Great Depression, which lasted for ten years, from 1929 to 1939."

Pretty bold statement. Doesn't anyone remember the 70's??
